Abstract

Fast and efficient extraction of global meteorological data around the 4D trajectory through webservice. 

The WeatherProfile service is designed to hide all the complexity of the meteorological domain: sources, format, availability...

 

WeatherProfile includes:

- An extraction of meteorological parameters (Wind, Temperature, Humidity, Pressure…) from multiple numerical weather models. This can be done either for each value on the 4D waypoints or on a dynamically user-defined corridor (buffer mode) around the 4D trajectory.

- An extraction of hazardous weather information from observation systems (convection by satellite, lightning detection...), OPMET (SIGMET) and numerical weather models (CAT, Icing, Convection).

- The best model feature: MetSafe platform is powered by several numerical weather models which can be global (GFS, GDPS…) or limited area high resolution models (ICOND2, AROME, …). The service automatically selects for the user the best data available around the location of the 4D trajectory among many weather models. 

- A diagnostic mode: This feature provides a quick JSON report on the intersection of hazardous weather with the 4D trajectory. The report indicates under a simple yes/no form the presence of hazardous weather for each leg of the 4D trajectory.

WeatherProfile responses are provided under JSON/GeoJSON format. 

This service is used operationally by fuel-efficiency solution and Air Traffic Management systems since 2018.

MetSafe proposes an access to global meteorological webservices for the aviation community through its cloud-based services platform. 

Access to data service delivers on a global scale regulated meteorological products, real time adverse weather service (radar, satellite) and numerical weather prediction products.

State of the atmosphere services (wind sand, SO2…) are also proposed based on COPERNICUS data.

Information is delivered through a SWIM yellow profile compliant API with ATM-grade quality of service.

MetSafe platform is powered by multiple meteorological sources. A partnership with MétéoFrance and Météorage ensures access to the latest state of art meteorological products.

Beyond provision of access to data, MetSafe provides tailored expert services such as extraction of meteorological information around the 4D trajectory or weather impact prediction for ATFCM.

Our meteorological webservices are used operationally to support various applications: Air Traffic Control Working position, Electronic flight Bag, fuel optimisation for airline.

Flight Planning Services

Up-to-date accurate meteorological information around the Flight Plan is a basic requirement of Flight Planning Services (refer to ICAO Annex 3). 

Electronic Flight Bag Solution

Connected EFB solutions requires up-to-date accurate meteorological information.

Solution to decrease the payload for meteorological information around the flight plan are available for datalink applications.

  

ATM systems and tools

Up-to-date meteorological information around the flight plan are needed in modern ATM systems and tools, for example for Flight Data Processing System or Sequencing Tools.

 

Authentication

Access to MetSafe services requires an access token that connects API requests to your account.

A free trial of WeatherProfile is proposed. An access token can be requested at [email protected].

Availability

WeatherPorfile is delivered from a European-wide cloud infrastructure ensuring resilience. The service is provided with an ATM-grade quality of service.

The default guaranteed service availability by SLA is 99,5%.

Response Time

Minimum response time for 95% of request are guaranteed depending on the selected SLA.  

Commun UTC Source

MetSafe platform is synchronized to UTC source. The systems consuming the service shall be synchronised to a UTC time-source.

COLLABORATIVE_VALIDATION
Validation

WeatherProfile service is running operationally since 2018.

 MetSafe has developed an independent validation process used for each service upgrade.

Before operational use, a collaborative validation has been performed with Weatherprofile current users.
