Cross Border Convection Forecast (CBCF) is a collaborative convection forecast coordinated by EUMETNET. Currently, 25 MET ANSPs produce a convection risk forecast for pre-tactical asessment of disruptive meteorological conditions daily between May and mid-October. This forecast is being used by the EUROCONTROL Network Manager, local Air Traffic Management Services, selected airports and airlines as well as other stakeholders to coordinate mitigation measures. Each day in the season, a forecast for the following day (D-1) is being compiled by official local contributions and issued at 09.00Z by a member of the EUMETNET CBCF Module, which is rotating on a weekly basis. The forecast covers five time intervals covering 06.00Z until 21.00Z in three-hour blocks. For each time step, cumulonimbus (CB) risk polygons are provided in 8 severity levels, considering the probability and frequency of their expected occurrence. A short description of the weather situation complements the collaborative forecast. At 22.00Z, this forecast is being updated daily by the participating MET ANSPs (D-0). In case of significant discrepancies, an amendment will be sent at designated times (D-1 at 12.00Z, D-0 at 09:00 Z).
